Welcome to all -- those familiar with the alpaca and those just beginning their journey in learning about the alpaca. We hope this web site will provide a variety of interesting information beginning with the fascinating history of the alpaca to the joy in raising alpacas and investing in them.

Some people own alpacas as companions or as 4-H projects for their children. Alpacas are wonderful animals for teaching compassion and responsibility for God's creatures. Others raise alpacas primarily for fiber production and as business investments. For whatever reason people choose alpacas, the alpaca becomes both a source of pleasure and profitability for all.

The highlands of Peru are home to the vast majority of all the alpacas in the world. The Quechua Indians, who domesticated the vicuna more than five thousand years ago, are the ancestral keepers of the alpaca.

They live in a high-altitude world of extremes -- a vast rocky landscape devoid of trees, where a bitter wind can drive the cold, thin air straight through your bones. In 1996, the Quechua Benefit founders decided to create a charity dedicated to the children of this extreme land.
